The Mystical Delicacy of the far eastern hot pot and Mangolian style BBQ

Don’t let the title fool you, as this month we are thrilled to share the most exciting news about a favourite pastime on Kuramathi; dining! Set in an intimate and enclosed space featuring urban tribal art just beside Inguru restaurant in the Thundi area, a new avenue opens up for eager guests who love the idea of an epicurean meal served fresh and hot.

The concept of the restaurant is loosely termed as a fun restaurant that incorporates the element of a community-style dining experience with family and friends. It introduces tables with an integrated ‘hot pot’ mechanism designed to create a unique and novel group dining experience. This will mark a first for Kuramathi Maldives, and the idea is inspired upon by none other than the Mongolian tribes and their traditions of cooking meat and vegetables over a fiery camp fire. It has now reached the shores of this island to tantalize the taste buds of eager palates.

Choose from the 3 packages on offer, seafood, meat and a nifty ‘surf and turf’ combo.

A typical dining experience for someone that might opt for the seafood would be as follows. Begin with a simple choice of base; whether it’s flavourful Thai tom yam, chicken clear soup or a Classic Chinese hot pot soup.

Next, you decide how you wish to cook your pick of fresh ingredients (that include peeled shrimp tail, Reef Fish Fillet sliced, New Zealand half mussel, squid, shrimp meat ball, rice vermicelli, Chinese cabbage, green cabbage, carrot, baby corn, white radish, celery stick, spring onion, assorted Asian mushrooms, Chinese hot pot sauce, Coconut Lime Dip, Thai sukiyaki sauce & steamed Jasmine rice) in either a traditional Chinese hot pot, or as a Mongolian sizzling BBQ. Waiters/waitresses assist you, to further fulfil and complete this amazing experience.

Yes, indeed it is a feast to behold, so make haste to reserve this vivid gastronomic voyage!

Wreathed in banyans and coconut palms in the lush heart of the island, this hidden, lantern-lit glade is a reflection of the fresh, creative approach of Amilla’s chefs, offering guests an enchanting new personalized private dining experience with a dash of Amilla’s signature sparkle.

Guests entering the Mystique Garden can let their imagination run wild with a bespoke menu tailored to their personal tastes by a dedicated private chef, or delve into Amilla’s carefully crafted, family-style Destination Dining set menus. Mouthwatering options include a succulent Seafood BBQ where oysters, prawns, squid and reef fish take centre stage; an Asian inspired feast featuring Peking duck, Hong Kong noodles and a Royal Tandoori selection; or an Arabian grill showcasing shrimp majboos, lahem meshwi, kofta, shish taouk, lamb ouzi and fish sharmola. The vibrant Vegetarian BBQ menu includes gnocchi, wild mushroom risotto, mixed tandoori with fruit chat, BBQ baked sweet potato and marinated vegetable skewers.

Providing a fairytale, festival-inspired sylvan counterpoint to the Robinson Crusoe vibes of Destination Dining on the island’s Sandbank, the new Mystique Garden is the latest chapter in the story of culinary creativity currently unfolding at Amilla Fushi. The resort also recently announced a year-long series of pop-up residencies by some of the hottest names in the business, kicking off with a four-stage partnership with Gordon Ramsay’s celebrated Bread Street Kitchen at Barolo Grill at Baazaar. The first Bread Street Kitchen pop-up is underway right now, with three more confirmed for 16 – 27 October; 19 December 2017 to 10 January 2018 and 23 March to 7 April 2018 for culinary excellence and creativity, complementing the sophisticated, gourmet Emperor General Store café-deli, the carefully curated fine wines and artisanal cheeses at the island’s The Wine Shop & Cellar Door. Amilla’s fabulous 60-cover, signature over-water restaurant Feeling Koi – brainchild of the resort’s curator and CEO of the Small Maldives Island Co., Mark Hehir – showcases a selection of artfully crafted sushi, nigiri and sashimi in Japanese-inspired minimalist surroundings, with a private open-air dining room and open deck seating by the water’s edge and an open kitchen.
